Green to Gray - Before and After

It took a pending graduation party with 65+ invitations in the mail to make me pull out the sewing machine, but I finally sewed the drapes for my living room!

Well, I half sewed them - half stitch-witched them.
Fingers crossed that they don't just fall in strips on the floor!

I have 11' ceilings and recently painted the room Wickham Gray (here).   The height of the ceiling requires long panels.  I used Annie Selke Scramble in Slate -on sale.   (Let me tell you how desperately I wanted this particular fabric - I could not find a swatch of the fabric in "slate," ANYWHERE in the Atlanta metro area, so I bravely ordered 4 yards without ever seeing the actual gray - not smart, but I am crazy like that).  Fortunately, the gray works perfectly with the paint.

The white portion of the panel was contrived out of my frugalness - I used an IKEA Ritva panel (118") and sewed/stichwitched the gray Scramble material along the edges.  The total cost for four 112" panels with the Annie Selke fabric was $150.00.  Not bad.  I think they are neutral enough to remain in this room for several years before they need to be replaced.  I like the Ritva curtain, btw - it looks like linen.

I also picked up an IKEA rug for the room.  I am absolutey positively in love with the rug.

I bought a second one for the bedroom across the hall - to tie the spaces together.

The sofa was my grandparents and the gold fabric on the sofa was manufactured in the textile mill my grandfather operated.  The coffee table is actually a piano bench.  I showed you how I planted the jade last year here.  Somehow it is still alive.

I am thrilled with the way my living room has evolved.

Down to the little vignette behind the door....

(my bird watercolor paintings are available here)

Now for the amazing "before" photos from last summer....

And the "after"...

Wow.
I should like win an award or something.
(Trying not to break my arm patting myself on the back!)

What a great looking room! The draperies are perfect for that space and I LOVE the fabulous sofa and how nice that you have left the original fabric on it. Your fireplace is beautiful, what can be seen of it, it looks great with the sofa in front of it. I have done that with my sofa, please come over and take a look. I posted it last Friday, I think.
Hugs, Cindy

How beautiful! The soft gray is the perfect wall color for your room. I don't blame you for waiting on the fabric - it's gorgeous. Will have to check it out. I did the same thing with 4 yards of fabric for a pair of French os de mouton chairs. Couldn't be more perfect. Great job!

Thanks for dropping by and commenting. I could stand to loose a few pounds, so maybe I will be having a mural painted in my kitchen! lol

The curtains turned out amazing, and both your living room and the bedroom are just beautiful. What is the paint color in the bedroom? I would love to add a couple of your images to the inspiration galleries on my site and include you in a feature post. Let me know if you're interested!
Serene is the first word that came to mind, and it was reinforced once I saw the before photos! I admire how simply you decorated, but there is just enough that the room looks pulled together. You deserve that pat on the back! By the way, found you on the Thrifty Decor Chick linkup party.

If i could give you an award, I would! Your home is absolutely beautiful and you've clearly put a lot of thought and love into the changes, both large and small. you are so clever to repurpose a piano bench as a table (I really might need to copy that idea myself) and your wall color and draperies look understatedly stylish. Great job!
Hi Trish...

Ohhhh my goodness...I have fallen in love! Seriously!!! My friend, I absolutely adore what you have done with your living room...it's gorgeous!!! After looking at your "before" photos...I would have never guessed it to be the same room even! I love, love, LOVE the grey wall color that you chose! And...how you used white to frame out all the trim, fireplace, etc.! Absolutely stunning!!! Your living room has such beautiful architectural details...I told you I had fallen in love...right? Hehe! I also love the gold sofa...it just looks fabulous with all the gray in that room! My friend, you did GOOD!!! Love the pretty vignette that you did on the table behind the door as well! The old ornate frames stacked together...that beautiful lamp...and the sweet prints of the birds...PERFECTION!!! Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous living room makeover with us...this was such a treat...and a real inspiration!

Warmest wishes,

So jealous of those ceiling heights!

Be proud. You deserve it. Great vision, and nicely done.

Throwing a party always gets my butt in gear to finish projects, too.

I'm visiting from Nester's Linky.

I meant to say I was visiting from Between Naps on the Porch.

A blogger's life gets confusing sometimes...
I never thought I would love a gold velvet sofa, but I DIE for that one. So special of a connection to it, too. The gray is so soothing compared to the green from "before". I am all about soothing and tranquil colors and am slowly making my home over in these types of colors. Even my 14 year old daughter went from a bright lime green to a pale aqua/turquoise. She loves the way the new color makes her feel more "chill".
