A Room Goes from "Little Boy' to 'Tween'

Before:

My 11-year-old-helper has been in his bedroom for 10 years with the same blue paint. I loved the blue. It was precious as a nursery (no nursery picts - I am a poor blogger, I know).

But, my helper was ready for a change. He is headed to Middle School in a month. So, out with the blue and in with the gray......
(after):

The gray is a bluish-gray - November Skies by Benjamin Moore.

I also used chalkboard paint on one wall and on three sides of the chimney that runs through the middle of his room. (remember - this house is 160 years old - so a chimney through the middle of the room is not unusual for us).

Here is another photo from the front side of the chimney.........

We love the new paint! (It is much grayer than the photos).
(and "yes" his beds are mis-matched - I cannot paint the oak one - his grandad made that in High School - Actually IN high school shop class!!!)

Trish, I love the new look. I did the same thing with the nautical guest room. It was blue and then I painted it gray, too. It is a very pale gray. I love the chalkboard paint you added, too. I bet he loves it.

I heart chalkboard paint. Looks great.
We went through the same thing, last year! We moved in when my {now 11-year old and heading to middle school} boy was only two and I got to pick everything. It was a lovely sage green, but he wanted a chambray blue, which is what it is, now. AND, we lost the total classic boy look and went with a more modern vibe, with touches of classic. It's still a work in progress as we need a floor lamp and drapes, but he thinks it's wonderful, and that's what counts!
Your paint choices are great!
xx Suzanne
Love the grey..and love the chalkboard!! Well done.

Ahh the power of paint. It is so much fun to transform our kids rooms..and they appreciate it so much, don't they? I just did my college age sons space over in carribean blues and greens. The best part of your sons room is the chalkboard paint. Love it!

Love the transformation, subtle yet more grown up! I am in the process of re-doing my 11 year old son's room as well. Haven't taken any after photos yet! Love the chalkboard wall, was thinking of doing the same!

Who cares if the beds don't match, that add that extra loving charm, especially if made my a grand dad.

That's a great color. I hear you on not painting the family treasures. I have some pieces my grandfather (and back) made that I would love to spiffy up, but I just can't make myself do it. And I don't think that's a bad thing.

This room looks great too. Don't know how I missed these posts, but am glad to see them now. The chalkboard is a great touch.

I love the new room. I'm dying to paint a whole wall with chalkboard paint!! I love the way it looks. I think it inspires creativity! Love that you have that bed made by his grandpa just as it is. I am a sucker for sentimental value!!

Coming over from Beth's. What a great room! What kid doesn't want to write on their walls...now he doesn't have to worry about getting in trouble! Nice job. Lisa

How fun! What little boy wouldn't want that room! I linked it to my "black walls" post too at my blog!
