Painted Furniture - Before and After

I completed a project! Yippee!!
Last week, I shared lots of beautiful photos of pink and turquoise rooms. My teenage girls share a pink room and DESPERATELY needed their dressers/chests painted.
We found the perfect paint and now they keep their room neat and tidy.

Here are the "before" photos of my girls' dressers (actually -chests of drawers - I use the term "dresser" quite loosely). I tried to crop their laundry and hair dryer cords out of the photos, but to no avail.

Disclaimer: Please know that I realize my girls are messy and that I am the Messy Mama for allowing their rooms to look so horribly disgusting. Their college roommates will surely request a room change. They will probably both grow up to have their own pigsties with little messy children, all because I allowed them to live in squalor while they were teens. Their rooms were tidy when they were small - honestly!

Before - Dresser/Chest Number 1 - oldest daughter

This was actually my husband's chest when he was a kid.

Before - Chest number 2 -Middle Child.

Trust me - there are lots of scratches that you cannot see in this photo.

And here is a chair in their room that I never finished painting.....

We selected "Wintergreen Ash" by Laura Ashley Home (Valspar from Lowe's).

We sanded and painted and sanded and painted (3 coats).

It took us one day and I should have done this 5 years ago.

Here is the desk chair in its new shade of blue.......

I also bought two new lamps - one at TJMaxx ($29)........

And one at Target ($15)......

We also ran across this cute fabric at Hancock's gigantic sale. ...

$3.50 a yard, decorator fabric. (Their current sale is fantastic.)

I covered a couple of their pillows and the chair cushion. The color is "right" but a little bit of floral goes a long way in a teen's room.

SO - I also ordered this aqua/turquoise fabric from Joanns.com and am patiently waiting on its arrival. Joann's Fabric is having a Waverly sale.

Once that arrives, I'll show you what else I sew with it.

Have a great day!

Your color choice is amazing. I've been trying to talk my girls into using a similar color on their dresser. Thanks
I love the new color so much. I got so tickled about you allowing your girls to live in squalor. Maybe they will be nice and neat when they have their own place. Fingers crossed.

I love the color and how it "made" the dressers/chests! The fabric is really pretty too! And I am SO GLAD you are keeping it real by showing the "mess". I have a hard time when I go from blog to blog and see perfectly tidy rooms all of the time- it makes me feel inferior and wonder why I can't keep my house clean!!! We live in our rooms! LOL

I can't wait to see what you sew with the new fabric!

Blessings,
Heather:)

They look fantastic!

I can't tell you how many times I've said to myself, now why didn't I do that sooner?? (She writes as she sits at a desk that was 'antiqued' by its former owner and could use a pick me up just like that.) : )

Love it Trish, but then if it's aqua I'm all over it! Do your girls like it? It's great against the pink walls.

I love a pink/turquoise combination, great job!

I won't even begin to count the projects I left sort of almost finished, not quite, will get to it soon. Ugh.
The room looks fabulous! I am so glad you shared the paint color because that color would look great on my baby girl's changing table! I knew I wanted a color like that but it is so hard to get the "right" color. Thanks for sharing!
i LOVE the color you used- sooo pretty! i also am in love with the fabric you ordered. it's gorgeous!! hopped over from shabby chic cottage. thanks for sharing!
Love the color you used. Very close to the colors I used on my tables. I'm painting blue/greens lately!

Love the new color! It's amazing what a little paint can do to update a piece.
Trish I love the color you used and the fabric choices! And never fear, I was the worlds messiest child and grew up to be neat, while my sister was the worlds neatest child and now her house is messy! But I didn't see any mess in your photos anyway!

What a great color you guys chose!! Those dressers both had a lot of life left in them, and now they have a fresh start. I bet your girls are over the moon with their room now~

I just hopped over from TDC's Before and After party. LOVE the aqua dressers in the pink room. My 6 y/o twins share a room, and I have plans to paint their walls bright pink. Along with that, I had also chosen (many months ago) to paint their dressers (term also used loosely....and both also the ones my husband and I used as kids) turquoise. I thought the bright colors would be fun and and would allow me to tie in some of what they already have. Anyway, I recently finished the first dresser, and it looks really cute. Seeing your finished product makes me even more excited to finish mine! :-)
I am loving your blue. I bet you CANNOT WAIT until your get that killer fabric!

Those turned out so cute!!!! Love that color.

Don't sweat the messy girls. I was also allowed to live in squalor as a child/teen - my mother said it promoted freedom and creativity.

Now I'm neat as a pin!
This color is adorable!!! I love your blog. What do you guys think about painting kitchen cabinets this color?
