Flea Market Observations and Regrets

My recent trip to the beach included visiting several flea markets and junk stores.

There were many cute items I could have used if my pocketbook were bigger - and if my creativity would hit while I am actually in the store.

I keep seeing really cute vintage mirrors.....  And lots of cake stands .....and bottles....  And vintage purses/clutches......  And plenty of inexpensive dressers..... and chairs begging for paint.

My middle daughter even volunteered to hold a vintage metal stool in her lap on the five hour drive back to Georgia.  But, I refrained from buying the stools (there were two of them) -I know my husband was thankful.  (Where are the great pictures from my excursions? -  Well, the family is down to one working camera and my husband needed the camera to photograph all the non-existent big fish he caught with the nephews).

Once I got home, I started shopping through the pages of Coastal Living- looking for cute ideas that I can hopefully remember WHILE I am in the store during my next flea market venture.  Here are some fun ideas.

I've noticed that there is an imaginary "fine line" between using flea market finds and making your home look like a flea market.

I would love an old bird cage - without a bird - but cannot find a way to convince my husband it has a purpose.  (and isn't that vintage chair cute?)

And if I ever run across these chairs or this bed - surely I will have the sense to buy them!....

Our family loves globes and maps....

I have to refrain from buying too many.

This next photo is very shabby chic with lots of ideas ....
I need to find a place for a chandelier.

These antique chairs are adorable yellow - but would probably make an antiques dealer cringe....
Love the pendant fixture and retro table, too!

Here is another painted antique.   The legs on this table are perfect...
And another map - simply framed.

There are PLENTY of glass bottles to be found in junk stores....

Grouping them is key.

Here is another set of grouped bottles....

I used to see lots of tubs like this one....
But have not seen any, lately -  I should have grabbed one long ago.

Here is another chandelier and more mirrors....
Such a peaceful look.

Hope you enjoyed my flea market tour through Coastal Living!
Have a great day!

Those are all great images. I especially love the pine cone bed and chairs. So true about the fine line. All of those images have just the right mixture that makes the room look like it was put together over time. Love that.

So true...for instance that paint chipped kitchen table is just tad too shabby for me. I do love the lightness of all these rooms.

Isn't it nice to dream or to just get ideas for your home. Coastal Living is a great magazine.
Sorry you didn't have room for all your goodies. Next time, how about the car roof! LOL

I love to Flea too! I like to see the unusual things you can find and think how to re-purpose them.
I just found something very cool, I just may have to post about it.
Have a great day!

Those are great pictures. I love the bedroom in pic #1. So pretty! The chair in #2 with the acorn tops...great. The fun yellow chairs and blue rug...love that.

Globes are just cool. I finally bought one last year, but I'm thinking they look better in a group. Maybe I need some more:)Great inspiration.

Oh the regrets!!! Happens to me all the time. Its funny how the brilliant ideas always come too late. Note to self: Start being brave and buy things on a whim!

I really don't need anything, but boy there are a few things I would love to have!!!!

I so understand you statement about using flea market items, and looking like a flea market - it is a fine line isn't it!!! :)

Oh, I really enjoyed this post. So true about the fine line...I adore the first bedroom. I want a bird cage too, but without the bird. Caged birds seem sad to me????
Such wonderful images. Love the way they turned that twin bed and made it a daybed. Wish I had a twin bed to do that with. Love those yellow chairs and that light. I need that little chandy in my grandbaby's nursery. Just what I am looking for.

Hi! So nice to meet you- discovered your blog today while searching for nautical and beach cottage ideas. Your "flea Market" title caught my attention, as I am so excited to go to our big Flea Market here in the SF Bay Area this weekend - check out my finds from my last visit: http://www.everythingcoastalstyle.blogspot.com

what a fun post. I am checking things off in my head as each picture scrolls by. Yes I have that, yes I want that...yes it can look like a flea market instead of chic flea market style. so true!
I love all of these rooms!!.. I have not convinced my husband that Shabby Chic is a beautiful, warm, charming way to decorate a home. So.. I have to do it in little ways. But if I had my druthers, this is how This Old House would look.
