I'm Torn

My zinnias are in full bloom!

As are my Annabelle hydrangeas........

(As I have mentioned ad-naseum for the past month.)

So, which lucky flowers get to be "front and center" inside my house?  I love them both and cannot demote either type (and I do not like hydrangeas mixed with zinnias  -- or maybe I just don't know how to properly arrange them --surely not.)

Anyway - after much hand-wringing (THAT is a joke - I am not much of a 'hand-wringer') the zinnias won the  Entry Hall Centerpiece award for this week....

Zinnias just belong in mason jars, don't they?

And a close 2nd place goes to the hydrangeas - who won the coveted spot on the kitchen table.........

Decisions, decisions!  What a blessing -to get to choose from such a gorgeous selection!

God writes the gospel not in the Bible alone, but on trees and flowers and clouds and stars. ~Martin Luther

My flowers are quite the inspiration for my paintings, so I am joining Melissa at The Inspired Room for her Inspiration Party!  and decorating with flowers from my yard is inexpensive, so I am joing Wendy at The Shabby Nest for Frugal Friday!

By the way, I bought that cute table runner on Etsy from Darling Damask .

Zinnias are one of my favorite flowers...so colorful and sturdy. They seem to last forever in a jar of water and 'yes' Mason jars are the perfect vessel for their down home beauty. Lovely arrangements. Thanks for starting my day with a bouquet!
Janet
PS...do you save the seeds??

I'm breathing a sigh of relief here. Not because you reached a decision on which flowers go where, but because I feel like I am the only one who has harped on about flowers, LOL. Well, I suppose if we are going to post about something ad nauseum it may as well be flowers, right? Your zinnias are so pretty...wish I had grown some.

What a blessing indeed! Now I'm gonna be on the hunt for some mason jars. I just gave one to my daughter Amy to use for lightening bugs. Your flowers are gorgeous!

Your flowers are beautiful! I'm sad that I didn't plant any Zinnias this year. Maybe it isn't too late!
Both of those look great in their chosen spots and you can always switch them up so one doesn't feel better than the other.
Janet - I save SOME seeds (the ones I really like) and buy some new packets each year. I'll be saving the petals from the bright one in the closeup of the jars - bottom right-had side of photo - those flowers have a mixed color and are BEAUTIFUL in person (not with my dinky camera).

Please do tell... how do you keep Hydrangeas alive and fresh when cut? Mine always seem to wilt within a day :-(
I would love the answer, thx!!!
SJN - Just found this link dealing with wilting hydrangeas in arrangements

I think you made the perfect decision. I love the zinnias because of all their color so I would definitely give them front and center.

Your flowers are an inspiration. Lovely.
Oh your zinnias are beautiful. I love all of the bright colors. Do you live in the midwest? I live in Indiana and a few years ago I planted zinnia seeds and they produced the most beautiful fuschia colored flowers. I save the centers as I was told you could get the seeds from and replant for the next year, but they didn't grow back from the dried seed. I was so bummed! So do you save your seeds from the dried zinnias and replant to get this beautiful bundle?

Also it made my day to see your little blog face button under my follower button today. Thank you so much.

Oh Trish, I just saw the answer to my question after going back and reading your comment back to Janet. You do save the seeds. You mentioned you were saving the petals??? I am new to this replanting seed stuff, so the seed is in the center of the zinnia right?
Okay - Here is how to save a Zinnia's seeds. Once the flowers turn brown (dead) - pull the individual petals away from the center of the flower. The dried petal is now a seed. Place the seeds (dried petals) in a brown paper bag and store until spring.

Those are lovely! I think you picked just the right containers for each type of flower. I wish I could step out in my yard and pick such beautiful blooms!
