Dorm Room Details Year 4
With two daughters, August means that it is time to furnish a dorm room.
I am in "that" phase of life. I am thinking The Son will not require this much attention once he hits college. He has never asked for anything room-related, except the request to take the changing table out of his room when he was in 2nd Grade. At the time, I truly thought I had him convinced that the changing table was a book shelf. He apparently was onto my tricks and knew it once housed his diapers. Now that he is a teenager, as long as he has clean undies and a pillow, he is good to go.
Thankfully, my eldest daughter is pretty much "set" in her 4th year of college - I just helped her pack the car and waved good-bye. Daughter #2, on the other hand, is beginning her freshman year.
I am fortunate that Daughter #2 has always been politely accepting of hand-me-downs. She is using her big-sister's aqua colored futon from Target. The aqua futon is showing some wear and grime - plus, it doesn't "go" with the colors she wants in her dorm room, so she asked for a slipcover made from a dropcloth.

That's a slipcover created from a $21 dropcloth on a Sunday afternoon.
She found the rug on the floor at TJMaxx. The ottoman was from IKEA - I sewed a slipcover for it a couple of years ago. (Couldn't find the footstool online - am thinking IKEA discontinued that one).
Before she left for camp, she gave us a sketch for her dorm room headboards....
She stuck to her $9.99 per yard (or less) budget. We used that fabric to create these headboards from plywood....
Her dad used his jigsaw and I was armed with the staple gun.
Here is a snapshot of the plywood after cutting...

Not quite done, but close. Let's hope all this comfort in her cinder-block room gives her the desire to study ALOT!

The headboards are great. You haven't mentioned the roomy...
have your daughters really been SO lucky to have room-mates that are so obliging to letting you decorate? Because...that part is truly a blessing!
can't wait to see it set up.
You will show it I hope.
