Thrifty Treasure

This is my first Thrifty Treasure post!

I found this wooden tiered "thing" in my father-in-law's attic.


Standing in the 130 degree attic, I envisioned this.................



My first thought was to pull out a can of black spray paint. Then my sister-in-law and father-in-law noted that it was hand carved by "grandpa so-and-so."

I will still use the black paint and will not feel guilty about it. (After all, if I happened across it at a yard sale I would paint it-right?)

I mentioned my guilt to my kids. My 16 year old said "You have to paint it, Mom." Ahh.....I have a supporter! (or is she a partner in crime?)

My thought is that what good are passed down treasures if you cannot enjoy them. I would paint it myself. And give it new life!

I'm all for painting it! The person who made it would want you to USE it rather than leave it in a cupboard because it wasn't the right color!

If you paint it, it doesn't change the fact that it was hand-carved! You're still cherishing a family heirloom....only it's a different color! I think it will look fabulous!
