Easy Upgrade

My 1970's kitchen has been on our list for an upgrade since we bought the house in 2000.  However,  the electrical wiring, plumbing, rotted wood, and structural beams took precedence. (pretty much the stuff you cannot see!)  Oh, Yes - we remodeled our bathrooms - thankfully!!!

We agreed that the kitchen renovation will be major - so we have tried not to spend any money on the kitchen since we will rip it all out, anyway.

However, the other day, I decided something HAD to be done around my stove.

My daughter painted this for me five years ago when she was 9.....

It is a whale's tale in the ocean at sunset, in case you are wondering.  Last week, she told me she wanted it taken down.

I decided that if I spent a little money on the area over the stove, then I would probably cook a whole lot more.  I debated painting something or maybe tiling a piece of plywood and hanging it over the stove.  But, then I decided to go with "easy."    I found a piece of stainless steel specifically meant to be a backsplash over the range area- found it at Lowes.  I have been living under a rock and did not know they made such a thing. Broan is the maker of this one.

The kids helped me install it before Dad got home.  (Does anyone else try to complete projects while the husband is out, or am I wierd?)

The old wallpaper from decades ago was exposed once I removed the wooden trim.
So I found some almost-the-same-color paint.  (nothing is ever easy!)

Voilla!!!

Love it !

Much cleaner looking and will help until we get started on our dream kitchen....

Oh, by the way THANK YOU to everyone who gave me hints about my den - I certainly appreciate it!  I'll let you see the results before long.  Have a great day!

It looks great...like a completely different kitchen. Funny how small things can do that.

hey... that's my line "nothing is ever easy". Nice to know it's not just you, right?!
The stove back looks great and so updated!
I actually have the same stove and hood at my Lake Oconee house (we probably both got them at Lowe's when it was the only place in town to shop);-)
Wow...a small change with a big impact. Great job.

hey I recognize one of those kitchens!! i also thought I was following you, but apparently I was not!! Weird! I have you on my blog roll, but not a follower? At any rate I am now "officially" following you. i think the stainless piece is a wowser. I have a big roll of faux stainless from Wilsonart (like formica) that we intended to put up in the cellar apartment for aback splash, but we have procrastinated and not done so yet. So there are cool things out there to get us along until we can get to our dream destination! I am, right there with ya. You haven't seen my kitchen and you won't until it starts getting the sledgehammer!
